1.19.2012:
Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to the blog portion of by
website! As the content grows, I will be
migrating the content to a blog-hosting site. As an
introduction, though, I wanted to give a brief
description of the types of things I plan to discuss.
What To Look For
Granite countertops, stainless steel appliances,
hardwood floors, and vaulted ceilings, right?
These things are valuable, but these are just the
surface. From the foundation to the vents in the
attic, a lot goes into the construction of a
home. Some things are visible; some
hidden. A building inspection will answer most
all of these questions (once you get to the point of
getting an inspection), of course. But the more
you know going into a home, the better prepared you
will be to ask good questions, and be on the lookout
for potential problems. I will be dedicating
some future blog entries to the particulars of what
you can look for, and why it matters. Because as
a wise man once said, 'knowing is half the battle'.
How To Make Space
Work For You
If Real Estate was priced like cars, a Caravan would
cost more than a Porsche. Obviously, size
matters, but it's not the only thing. It's not
even the most important thing. Part of an
architectural education is understanding space, and
how to make it work for you. In some upcoming
posts, I will look at floor plans of existing homes,
and show options of how they can be more
effective. It may be that you need more space-
it could also be that you could better use the space
you have. Or look at potential properties with a
remodeling in mind.
What Excites Me
From time to time, I plan to write about things I find
particularly interesting, and what it is I like (or
dislike) about them. Whether it be an
historically significant property, or simply something
that I believe has value, once in awhile I will be
writing about things that simply catch my eye. I
hope you find them as worthwhile as I do!
So that, I think, gives a little run-down of what I
plan to discuss. Thanks for reading, and please
check in often! Feel free to contact me with any
questions or comments. I look forward to hearing
from you.
